Episode 5: Interview with the Lwenyas - AFRIKNIT DOLLS

Dolls make children to be happy and express their feelings - joy, anger, sadness among others. Based on that inspiration and the need to conserve the environment through collections of fabric cuttings from tailors to avoid them disposing them, the Lwenya family decided to start Afrinit Dolls.

Afrinit Dolls is a family business founded and run by Mechack Lwenya and his wife Susan Lwenya that makes African dolls out of waste cuttings from fabrics. Their main mission is to enable children to be happy and express themselves while at the same time conserving the environment through collections of fabric cuttings that are considered waste by many tailors.

In this episode, the Lwenya family shares more about their journey so far and how they have been able to grow their business to where it is and what their future plans looks like.

The Lwenya family believes through through the business, they will continue to make a positive social impact in the community through contributing to conservation of the environment and training young designers interested in how to make dolls.

They advise that anyone running or wanting to start a business, they should not be discouraged with challenges. Additionally, they encourage all entrepreneurs to love and serve their customers equally despite the volume of business they bring to the business so as to ensure loyalty to the brand and high customer satisfaction.
